Emerge

‘Dramatic pop’ is a label not often bandied about too lightly, but after taking a spin with Jessica O’Donoghue‘s material to be featured on her debut EP, Emerge? The shoe fits.

O’Donoghue’s musical direction is one coloured with eclecticism and vibrancy; her opera background has led her down the alt-pop path and since, she has been infusing her music with undeniable amounts of ambition and confidence that has taken her right around the world.

Having shed her skin and found new artistic vision, Jessica O’Donogue knew she was laying herself bare by releasing her stunning album Emerge. - Happy Mag

Says Jessica about her unique approach to composition and performance:

“My sound is ‘dramatic pop’. With a background in opera, it’s hard not to let that theatrical side filter through! My vocals are often described as ‘haunting’ and ‘epic’ and because of my classical training, I like to use a vast range in my voice, combining lower earthy melodies with high soaring vocal textures over the top. I then love to juxtapose these vocal sounds with electronic beats and synth textures which gives a pretty eclectic mix, plus I have a heavy Sephardic influence in my sound from my love of Renaissance Medieval music.”

Jessica wrote and recorded her debut solo EP Emerge which launched to sell out shows in Sydney (OAF), Melbourne and Brisbane in 2017.

Praise for Emerge: ‘A mercurial talent, Jessica has created songs with real depth. Listening to the album is a full-bodied experience: theatrical and intimate, operatic and haunting, raw and urgent, at once dark and contemplative and inspiring.’ – Ashleigh Wilson (The Australian).
